My First Ratting Ship

The Humble Beginnings

I had been training to effectively use a Rattlesnake while I was in nullsec, so I decided to go with that as my first ratting ship. Here’s the fit:

Here’s what Pyfa has to say about it:

C3 Ratter

Let’s start with the resistances. Since Sleepers do omni damage, it’s important to have all the holes filled. We could go a little higher on Kinetic, but they look good for now.

The next section, recharge rates, is arguably the most important. We can see that my passive recharge rate is 505 hp per second. According to Rykki’s Guide, we know that the highest DPS we’ll have to withstand in a single wave is 816. On average, it’s between 600 and 750 DPS. Knowing this, I may have a little trouble in some sites, but given the fact that none of the Sleepers will scram in the highest DPS waves, I can always warp out if I get into too much trouble. If you’d rather sacrifice some DPS for a higher shield recharge rate, you can swap one Drone Damage Amplifier II for another Shield Power Relay II. Your passive recharge rate and DPS would then look like this:

Shield Switch

Not a bad trade, I just prefer higher DPS.

Moving down to the Firepower section, you can see that I’m doing around 715 total DPS. This has more to do with my skills than my fit, as turning Pyfa to account for all level 5 skills cranks the DPS up to 1101.

Next is Capacitor, and again, this is largely affected by my skills. Mine lasts 18 minutes currently, but with max skills it goes up to 26 minutes. Even at my skills it lasts long enough to clear a site as I’m doing them in 15-20 minutes.

Last but not least is the Targeting & Misc. section. I have a lock range of 78 km and a drone control range of 69 km. All my speeds are abysmal, but this doesn’t affect me much as I’m not speed tanking. I just stay aligned to my exit hole in case I have to bug out quickly.

How much can you make with this fit? It will vary depending on your skills and piloting abilities, but let’s take an average just to give you an idea. If you were to run four Fortification Frontier Strongholds an hour, that would be 164 Million ISK. Rykki’s tells us that the best time to clear the site with 700 DPS is 6.5 minutes, so you could potentially make 350+ Million an hour with this fit. It would be very hard to find enough sites to run this quickly, but that’s just to give you a ballpark of what you can make.

Fly safe,

Griff

This is the fit I used to print ISK solo with when I lived in a C2/C3 wormhole, nets you roughly 200 mill/hr if you skip those pesky Outposts. Shoot all the webby things first, then the neuting and remote repping stuff (in accordance to triggers ofc). Use CN Scourge for frigs/cruisers, Scourge Rage for battlecruisers and battleships. Make sure to memorise the spawn points as well since your range isn’t too great with HAMs

It unfortunately cannot solo the data/relic sites reliably since the dps output doesn’t compensate enough for tank and cap life, but bring a friend in a similar fit and you’ll be fine.

The fit is tricky to catch in a cloaky as you’ll be moving around at 600+ m/s, and your survivability increases manyfold as long as you try avoid being in line with warp in beacon, wrecks, collideables and celestials.

Warp into site, burn slightly in, drop bling mtu and bookmark it, do site, scoop mtu and blue loot, return later with salvage destroyer.

The most vulnerable parts is of course warp in and scooping mtu, but I got sick of them taking all the cargo space instead of missiles so I decided it worth the risk. Never got caught.
